TUCSON, Arizona — The Tucson community is mourning the loss of 34-year-old Crystal Marie Cruz, who died following a serious traffic collision at the intersection of Stone Avenue and Drachman Street on the afternoon of June 3, 2026.

According to the Tucson Police Department, officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the busy central Tucson intersection. When emergency personnel arrived, they found a 1995 Dodge Neon and a 2015 Toyota Highlander with significant damage resulting from the collision.

Investigators determined that Cruz was driving the Dodge Neon northbound on Stone Avenue when the crash occurred. The Toyota Highlander, operated by a 41-year-old driver, was traveling southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Drachman Street. During the turn, the two vehicles collided within the intersection.

Tucson Fire Department personnel provided emergency medical care at the scene before transporting Cruz to a local hospital. Despite extensive efforts by medical staff, she later succumbed to her injuries.

A passenger riding in Cruz’s vehicle sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that the passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. The driver of the Toyota Highlander survived the crash and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.

The Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. Preliminary findings indicate that multiple factors may have contributed to the crash. Investigators stated that the Toyota driver failed to yield while making a left turn, while witness statements also indicated that the Dodge Neon was traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision.

Authorities further reported that neither Cruz nor her passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Officials noted that seat belt use remains one of the most effective measures for reducing the risk of serious injury or death in motor vehicle collisions.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not announced whether any citations or charges will be issued.

As family and friends come to terms with this tragic loss, many are choosing to remember Crystal Marie Cruz for the life she lived rather than the circumstances of her passing. Her death has left a profound impact on those who knew and loved her, and she is being remembered as a cherished daughter, relative, friend, and member of the Tucson community.
