WHALEYVILLE, Md. — The Whaleyville community is mourning the tragic loss of Gregory Roth, 79, of Ocean City, who died following a fatal two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening near the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and MD Route 610.

According to the Maryland State Police, troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the crash scene shortly before 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Roth was operating a silver 2010 Nissan Altima northbound on MD Route 610 when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection with westbound U.S. Route 50. The Altima was subsequently struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling along Route 50.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided aid at the scene. Despite their efforts, Roth sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the occupants of the second vehicle or whether any other injuries were reported.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing its investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Factors such as vehicle speed, road conditions, and visibility are being reviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
